Life is full of choices. One of the biggest choices we need to make as parents is what boundaries we want to set for our children and how we want to enforce these. The trick, in my opinion, is to make as few as possible. I certainly don't want to raise children who don't understand and respect other people and societal norms. But I also don't want to spend my entire life trying to redirect my children. Whichever rules we decide apply to our family, success depends on being consistent.
Amanda Morgan explains this well in her blog, Not Just Cute, when she explains why changing a rule JUST ONCE starts to undermine all we are teaching. How can this be? Read her insightful article and let me know whether you agree.
One relatively easy area to give choices is with food. Please join us November 5 as we learn ways to give our children great food choices from Caron Gremont from First Bites. More information and registration for this useful information session can be found here.
