Known for its strong community of students, parents, and faculty, the Gan is the perfect place for children to learn, grow, and have fun! Now offering both Full Day and Part Time programs.
Welcome to the Gan, a premier Jewish preschool in Washington, DC. We are a community of students, staff, and parents who learn and play together. Our children, ages six months to five years, are excited to come to school to experience new things and see familiar faces. Children form friendships with one another that sometimes turn into lifelong relationships, and parents frequently make plans for coffee and get-togethers with other families. We are a diverse community of families who celebrate traditions together, and whose children learn to love learning. more >

Nap Policy and webinar
The Gan pays careful attention to early childhood development and the importance of brain growth during these early years. Historically, we have mostly focused on motor development, social/emotional development, language development and activities of daily living. The expansion of our Full Day Program has reminded us to attend to and consider another essential part of brain development…..SLEEP. “Young children exhibit the largest amount of slow wave (deep) sleep. Recent studies have correlated this slow wave sleep with brain development. In fact, certain types of brain scans have demonstrated that regional areas of the brain receiving these slow waves show increased growth and development in response. REM sleep is also important and plays a major role in developing the visual related parts of our brain. Finally, recent works show the pro duction during sleep of cerebral proteins required for these changes.” (Everyday Health, 2013)
With this in mind, we have created a Nap Policy, with the help of Sleep Consultant Whitney Roban, which was rolled out in July 2017. To help us understand why sleep is important and facilitate healthy sleep habits, Whitney hosted a Webinar for our community on Monday, July 10th.
THE GAN "WORD CLOUD"
